Larimer County’s Fort Collins, home of Colorado State University, is also the state’s second largest beer producer, with brands like Fat Tire, Z Lager, Poudre Pale Ale and those ubiquitous Buds, Lite and regular. Hence tour packages like Foam on the Range abound along with myriad other delights. From scenic perspective, Fort Collins is just minutes from the Cache la Poudre Canyon, great for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing and whitewater rafting. Higher altitudes in the 7,000-foot range make it advisable for newcomers to take it easy for a day or so before jumping into strenuous activity like downhill or cross-country skiing. Festival-style celebrations go hand-in-hand with Fort Collins, where June alone hosts WineFest, Poudre River Fest, Taste of Fort Collins, the Colorado Bug Classic, and the Colorado Brewers Festivals. Summer’s end brings WestFest.
